A Consumer Reports investigation said that high levels of pesticides are in imported fruits and vegetables. Fifty-two of the 65 imported samples of contamination came from Mexico.
Green beans were “the only organic food we found with significant levels of pesticides,” said James Rogers, director of food safety research and testing at Consumer Reports. Nearly all of the tested green beans were contaminated with acephate. The US Environmental Protection Agency banned acephate in 2011.
Also, strawberries were highly contaminated, especially the frozen variety. Strawberries grow low to the ground and are therefore subject to insects.
Yea! Good job Mexico.
