The battle began in Lexington, Massachusetts and continued all the way into Concord. The running battle then continued all the way back to Charlestown. This is where British General Gage made one of his more astounding mistakes. The British should have stayed and occupied Charlestown. Instead, the British evacuated Charlestown the next day. If they had held the Charlestown Heights, there wouldn’t have been the “greatest battle” of the American Revolutionary War. This battle is known as the Battle of Bunker Hill. It was fought on June 17, 1775.
Today Massachusetts disgraces the memory of that most important day. Massachusetts is not the “Spirit of America.” It’s the “Shame of America.”
