The House of Representatives is set to vote on another FISA bill today. A previous bill did not pass the House. This bill reauthorizes Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) for two years. FISA allows the government to spy on foreign adversaries abroad who are communicating with American citizens.
Currently, FISA allows the government to listen to these communications without a warrant regarding American citizens. Some GOP members are pushing for an amendment that would add a warrant requirement before the government is able to spy on American citizens.
Remember that FISA did not stop the attack on 9-11 and was used illegally to spy on President Trump’s 2015-2016 campaign for president.
